Dec 15, 2018 - If you no longer have the standard assets.unitypackage on disk then you will need to download them again directly from the Asset Store. I am new to unity I have 5.5 and I added a tutorial to my cart. It says open in unity I click it and unity starts but no download. I do not have anything in unity that says asset store I have Projects and Get Started. A sub menu of On Disk and In the cloud and a new and open button next to my account. Note: this project is work in progress and currently considered a beta. It contains dependency on packages such as our new Input System which is in preview, and as such will continue to be in beta so long as it relies on in Preview tech. We will ship this content as a package in 2019.

This package can be used in 2018.2, but we are currently working in 2018.3 so we recommend you follow suit as fixes to aspects we use like new input will be applied to an 18.3 compatible package first.

This repository contains the new Standard Assets Character Controller Package, consisting of both code to drive a more advanced version of First and Third Person Characters than the old Standard Assets Character, as well as a demo scene and setup for Character prototyping purposes and example setup of First and Third Person Characters.

Getting Started
From Repo
- Pull the repository and open the project in the relevant version of Unity
- Open the Protoland Scene
- Enable either the First Person or the Third Person Game Object under Characters
- Press Play
Importing the Package
- Import the SAC package.
- Make sure that you have the following Unity Packages added in your manifest.json:
- 'com.unity.cinemachine': '2.2.8'
- 'com.unity.inputsystem': '0.2.0-preview'
- 'com.unity.postprocessing': '2.1.2'
- 'com.unity.probuilder': '4.0.3'
- Open the Protoland Scene
- Enable either the First Person or the Third Person Game Object under Characters
- Press Play
Base Setup
- Create a new Scene.
- Make sure that the main scene camera has the Main Camera Tag set on it
- Place a plane in the Scene to act as the floor and resize to preference.
- Optional set-up for Movement Effects:
- Drag in Movement Zone Manager prefab.
- To change the level default effects, create a new LevelMovementZoneConfiguration via Create -> Standard Assets -> Characters -> Level Movement Zone Configuration and set it on this prefab
- Set the plane’s layer to Ground, in order for Third Person footsteps to work.
First Person Setup
- Drag in the First Person prefab.
Third Person Setup
- Drag in the Third Person (Male) prefab.
- Ensure that the Y value is greater than the Ground Plane’s Y value.
- Drag in the Third Person Camera (Male) prefab.
- There is also a female third person character. To use this instead, delete the male prefabs from the scene and drag in the female prefabs:

Changing the download location of Unity Asset Store assets (Tutorial/technique)
If you start Unity and head to the Asset Store window tab, you can login to your account and download all the assets that you have purchased or added to your account for free. It will then download the files and activate the „Import“ function in the asset store window, allowing you to directly import the asset into your current project.
I recently stumbled upon a problem : I reinstalled all my software to my small SSD drive in order to allow for faster starting times. When I started importing larger assets into my new Unity installation my small HDD would soon warn me about low memory. I figured I could switch the download location somewhere, but heading to the preferences and project settings left my dumbfounded – I could literally not change the download location. I googled around a bit and came up with a solution :
Symbolic Links
Install the Link Shell Extension
Symbolic links are advanced shortcuts to directories, they will be treated like real directories by application. You can create them via the Command Prompt using the mlink command set, or install a really cool Shell extension which adds this awesome functionality to your context menu. I will do the later. Lets get started : Head over to shinagl.priv.at and download the runtime library you need first, then proceed to download the Link Shell Extension.
You will be asked to restart the explorer during installation, press yes and the setup will do it for you. You now have the extension installed.
Create your download folder
Now we are ready to do the linking. Choose a location that you want Unity to download the assets into, for example in a folder called “Unity Asset Store Files” in your second HDD root. Create the folder and right click on it. Choose “Pick Link Source”. Now a shortcut to this folder you just created will be used for the link creation process. We have to choose a destination in order to be able to finish the linling. Now navigate to the default Unity download location, which is the “AppDataRoaming” folder of Unitys installation drive. If you have Unity installed on C: , it will look like this : “C:UsersUserAppDataRoamingUnity”
How To Download Assets In Unity
Inside this directory you will find some folders. The one we are looking for is “Asset Store-5.x”. Inside this folder, all downloaded assets are stored in a folder named after the developer. We want this to be replaced by our symbolic link. Choose the “Asset Store-5.x” folder, press F2 and rename it to create a backup (you can delete it if you want, you just need to redownload all the assets then).
Create the symbolic link
Right click in the folder and choose “Drop as” from the context menu. Choose “Symbolic Link” from the expanding menu. You should see a shortcut to the “Unity Asset Store Files”-folder we created on the other Drive. Select the shortcut, press F2 and rename it to “Asset Store-5.x”. Make sure it is spelled exactly the same. You need to do this in order to avoid naming conflicts .
Now Unity will treat this shortcut as the download location, putting all its files in the source folder we have defined on our other drive. You can use this technique if your software requires a certain folder on a certain drive but you want it to be on another hard drive due to memory managing.
TL;DR version
Step 1 : Download and install the 32-Bit or 64 Bit redistributable from shinagl.priv.at
Step 2 : Download and install the Link Shell Extension from shinagl.priv.at
Step 3 : Create a folder where you want Unity to download to. Can be anywhere on your drives.
How To Download Paid Assets For Free In Unity
Step 4 : Right click the folder and choose “Pick Link Source”.
Step 5 : Navigate to Unity’s AppData/Roaming folder. You will find it in the “Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Unity” directory on the drive where Unity is installed.
Step 6 : Right Click and select “Drop As/Symbolic Link” from the context menu. A shortcut will be inside the folder now.

Step 7 : Name it “Asset Store-5.x” , make sure to remove or rename the original “Asset Store-5.x” folder to avoid naming conflicts.
